Carol McGiffin is branded 'racist' for defending Trump

Loose Women’s Carol McGiffin is branded ‘disgusting and racist’ after ‘defending Trump rioters’ by saying ‘evidence the election has been stolen hasn’t been seen in court’

  • Carol McGiffin, 60, said voices of rioters in Washington DC ‘hadn’t been heard’
  • Incorrectly said evidence of electoral fraud ‘hadn’t been seen in court’ and that ‘she understands the anger’ of Trump’s supporters who breached the Capitol
  • In October the presenter said she’d vote for Trump if she lived in the US

Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin shocked viewers today after she said she ‘understands the anger’ of Trump supporters rioting in Washington D.C as their voices ‘haven’t been heard’.

The broadcaster, 60, was accused of ‘racism’ and described as ‘disgusting’ by viewers of the ITV show after she said the US president’s fans were mostly ‘peaceful protesters’ and that ‘people get angry when they’re not listened to’.

She also insisted that courts ‘hadn’t seen the evidence’ of electoral fraud claims broadcast by Trump and his supporters, despite at least 60 cases going to court and being dropped or dismissed due to lack of grounds.

It comes three months after Carol revealed she would vote for Trump if she lived in the US and described liberals are ‘intolerant’ saying they ‘can’t handle other people’s opinions’, adding that she wouldn’t vote for Joe Biden because ‘he can’t remember his own name’.

Speaking to a panel including  Judi Love and Stacey Solomon, host Jane Moore explained how she had woken up to the news of the riots in the US which left four dead following one of the darkest days in American political history which began with Trump urging his supporters to march on the Capitol Building to stop the result on the November election being certified, and ended with supporters breaching the building with members of the senate inside.

‘The violence was shocking and criminal damage is never acceptable for any reason, and that’s my view,’ Carol explained.

‘But I do understand why the people were there, and what started off as a peaceful protest…

‘These people are angry and this is what happens when people get angry and aren’t listened to.

‘These people think they have a case for the alleged fraud in the election and whether or not you think – or I think or anyone else thinks –  it was stolen from them, they’re not being heard. The evidence they do have has not been heard by court.

Carol went on to question how the protesters breached the Capitol in the first place before continuing to defend them.

‘You have to remember that the violence is always perpetuated by a minority and that’s now put the final nail in the coffin for any case they might have had ever.

‘It never ever works. But I understand the frustration of people when they do protested, but some people ruin it for everyone else it just defeats the object and takes away the message.

Viewers said they needed a ‘reality check’ and that the women ‘handled the chat appallingly’.

‘Not Carol McGiffin on #LooseWomen saying that people alleging fraud “weren’t listened to”

Viewers said they needed a ‘reality check’ and that the women ‘handled the chat appallingly’.

‘Trump lost dozens of cases where he presented his case, Carol. Some were presided on by judges he appointed, spouting “they weren’t listened to” is nonsensical and dangerous,’ one said.

‘Ok, it’s time to remove Carol from the panel,’ said another.

‘I don’t understand how Carol can defend the rioters, it’s inexcusable,’ said another.

It comes as the US has been rocked by hours of chaos, with at least 52 people arrested Wednesday as hundreds violently broke their way into the Capitol.

Congress had been in session at the time of the attack, undertaking the typically-routine business of certifying the election result – which was being opposed by a number of Republicans loyal to Trump.

The President had been holding a rally nearby at the White House before urging his supporters to go to the Capitol, where they broke in amid the debates – trashing the symbolic home of western democracy as they looted and broke into congressional offices with politicians donning gas masks and fleeing under armed guard.

One woman – 14-year Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit – was shot dead inside the building, while three others died from ‘individual medical emergencies’ elsewhere on Capitol property.

Anarchy reigned at the US Capitol on Wednesday after thousands of Donald Trump supporters, urged on by the President himself, marched on the building to try and stop Congress certifying Joe Biden’s election win

Donald Trump has promised an ‘orderly transition’ of power after Joe Biden’s election win was finally certified by Congress – a process delayed by hours after a day of chaos in the US Capitol.

aide in which he conceded defeat, while at the same time hailing the mayhem as ‘the end of the greatest first term in presidential history’.

The President also continued to dispute the election result, saying: ‘Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.

‘I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted.

Speaking to a panel including Jane Moore, Judi Love and Stacey Solomon, Carol said: ‘The violence was shocking and criminal damage is never acceptable for any reason, and that’s my view. ‘But I do understand why the people were there, and what started off as a peaceful protest…

‘While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!’

Following the election in November, Trump made dozens of unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud with little to no evidence.

Top officials at the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement declaring the 2020 election ‘the most secure in American history’.

‘There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.’

Supporters of Trump said filed 60 lawsuits contesting election processes, including vote counting, and vote certifications, which were nearly all dismissed or dropped due to lack of evidence and branded ‘frivolous’ by judges.
