5 ways to ace Wimbledon – ‘it’ll be the best tennis you ever watch’, says expert

Wimbledon 2022 is already well underway with thousands of tennis fans heading to London for the biggest and most prestigious event in the British tennis calendar.

For celebrities, royals and die-hard tennis fans it’s an unmissable occasion – we’re all cheering for you, Andy Murray!

Centre Court is the place to be until the tournament ends on Sunday July 10. While we look forward to watching the action with a pint of Pimms, seasoned pros are gearing up to follow the unspoken rules of Wimbledon.

Intrigued? So are we!

Luckily, etiquette expert and luxury content creator Leonora Smee is here to help.

“There are so many different things to learn about Wimbledon,” she reveals. “Where to sit, where not to sit, what not to wear…my goodness it is fabulous!”

Watch our exclusive video for Leonora’s top hints and tips needed to fit right in and enjoy the very best experience by the courts…

Must-have tickets

While most of us pop our names into the ballot and keep our fingers firmly crossed, it’s worth splashing out just one year for the best seats in the house.

The best you can get are debenture tickets – a world away from Murray Mound.

“These seats are located in the first 14 rows in the middle tier of Centre Court,” says Leonora. “You get prime location and you’re able to see exactly what’s going on on the court.”

You never know, you might end up sitting next to someone very famous…

Choose your day wisely

You might think the men’s or women’s final is the best day of the bunch, but apparently it’s not all about seeing those shiny trophies.

“I personally think the second Monday is the best day to go. It’s known as Magic Monday and will be the best tennis you’ll ever watch.”

Rub shoulders with the royals

Patrons Prince William and Kate Middleton are often spotted on Centre Court at Wimbledon.

They’re pretty hard to miss, and so are their animated expressions!

“You know exactly what’s going on on the court just by looking at Kate’s amazing facial expressions,” explains Leonora. “When it comes to Wimbledon, her style is incredible.”

Keep your eyes peeled for her floaty dress and chic sunglasses.

Avoid headwear

Sure, a hat will keep those rays away on a sunny day, but Leonora says wide-brimmed styles are more annoying than alluring.

If you’ve paid good money to watch tennis, you don’t want to see the hat of the person in front of you instead.

Dress dos and don’ts

There’s not a strict dress code for Wimbledon, but Leonora can offer a few advisory hints.

“You’re not allowed to wear ripped jeans (or jeans of any sort), sport vests, trainers or shorts, I believe.”

Don’t forget to look for Rufus the resident hawk who’s trained to keep birds away from the players – what a job!
