Social Seen: Eyebrows raised at some FROW seating choices at MBFWA

Eveleigh's Carriageworks was this week once again overtaken by Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, aka Christmas for the well-heeled.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Shaun White (L) with Joe Jonas at the Double Rainbouu MBFWA show at the Lansdowne Hotel on Monday.

There were some well-known faces knocking about, including The Voice judge Joe Jonas, model Elsa Pataky (who is also married to actor Chris Hemsworth), model Georgia Fowler, three-time Olympic gold medallist Shaun White, PE Nation's Pip Edwards, Romance Was Born's Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett, designer Kym Ellery, Vogue's Christine Centenera (who is also a designer and consultant for the likes of Kanye West), TDE designer Alyce Tran and model Jennifer Hawkins.

But if you're not into the world of Professional Instagrammers, you probably wouldn't recognise many of those who were perched in the front row (the FROW).

The runway shows are the main focus for the designers, buyers, models and media, but the rest (aka the professional peace and pouters) seem to put all of their attention into peacocking out the front in the hopes that they'll be snapped by the hordes of street style photographers and end up on yet another fashion gallery somewhere on the world wide web (see ours attached).

Models at the Romance Was Born show on Tuesday.

For maximum exposure, many can be found in the bathrooms at intermittent times of the day changing their ensembles before heading straight back out to the front so they can do it all over again.

To prevent a Fashion Week faux pas (showing up in the same outfit as someone else – God forbid) online fashion retailer The Iconic were on-hand offering a one-hour delivery service direct to runway.

Superga had a similar idea, giving away customised sneakers – a Godsend for those who tried, and failed, to parade for the day in heels.

For some (Social Seen included), the best moments of MBFWA surround the politics of the FROW – who is sitting there and who isn't.

There were more than a few eyebrows raised at the positioning of Karl Stefanovic’s second wife, Jasmine Yarbrough, who was front and centre at Albus Lumen beside none-other than Fashion Week's Queen Bee, Edwina McCann, editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia (basically, Down Under's Anna Wintour).

"How is she getting to sit beside Edwina? No one even knew who she was until this time last year when she showed up with Karl … and their mothers," laughed one green-eyed show-goer to another.

There was another FROW-fiasco at Double Rainbouu when Joe Jones and Shaun White's pre-show dinner ran over and the pair showed up so late their seats had been given away to mere mortals.

But all order was restored when the pint-sized guests of honour were squeezed onto a bench just in time for the show by Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones (formerly creative directors of Ksubi).

Bachelor alumni: Jake Ellis, Megan Marx, Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne at the Thurley show on Wednesday.

Despite finding fame for a second time on the recent Channel 10 spin-off Bachelor In Paradise, Jake Ellis and Megan Marx looked as if they were sporting a sourpuss with their positioning in the third row for C/Meo Collective. You win some, you lose some.

As seen on Sundays in The Sun-Herald's S liftout.
