Prince Charles tied the knot with Princess Diana in 1981 before divorcing in 1996, a year before her death. The Prince went on to marry Camilla in 2005, making her the Duchess of Cornwall. An expert has commented on the two engagement rings presented by Charles.
Charlotte White, head of design at Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller 77 Diamonds, said: “For his engagement to Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Charles opted for the traditional route, choosing a Royal Family heirloom to present to his bride-to-be, specifically a ring which formerly belonged to the Queen Mother, and is believed to have been a gift marking the birth of Queen Elizabeth II.
“The Duchess of Cornwall’s engagement ring features an impressive five carats of emerald-cut diamonds in an art deco style with side stones.”
According to the expert, Camilla’s engagement ring could be worth a fortune.
She said: “To commission a replica ring from the 77 Diamonds Mayfair workshop incorporating diamonds of H or I colour and VS2 clarity with GIA certificated diamonds would cost £70,000.”
In the UK, the average weight of a diamond in an engagement ring sits at 0.6 carats, which means the Duchess’ ring is significantly larger than the standard carat.
A typical price for a 0.6 carat ring also currently stands at around £2,000.
Emerald cut engagement rings are also rare and harder to find, which no doubt increases the price of the pieces.

The sapphire ring, which has been replicated all over the world, is worn by the Duchess of Cambridge along with her Welsh gold wedding band.
According to the expert, the ring was an “unexpected” choice at the time.
The sapphire ring was created by British jeweller Garrad and was chosen by Prince Charles for his proposal to Diana.
Charlotte explained: “That said, the size of the Duchess of Cornwall’s ring pales in comparison to the engagement ring that once belonged to Princess Diana and which Prince William used when he asked his then-girlfriend Catherine for her hand in marriage whilst holidaying together in Kenya in 2010.
“Princess Diana’s ring features a 12 carat oval blue sapphire, surrounded by 14 diamonds and has since become almost as famous as its original owner.
“Princess Diana’s ring choice was unexpected at the time because it was purchased directly from a catalogue, as opposed to being a custom-made design.
“Following Prince Charles’ proposal, Princess Diana was reportedly presented with a selection of engagement rings before choosing her favourite, a ring that resembled one her mother owned.
‘This poignant moment was covered in the fourth season of The Crown; Diana, portrayed by Emma Corrin, selects a ring that reminds her of her mother’s, before describing the sapphire stone as ‘the same colour as my eyes’.
“Years later, the ring now holds a new sentimental value to Prince William, who is reported to have given the ring to his now wife as a way of making sure his mother didn’t miss out on his wedding day.”
It has been valued at different prices over the years, with a recent study from jewellery experts at EST1897 claiming it could be worth as much as £390,000.
Other experts have said the ring is “priceless” due to the history it holds as well as its sentimental value.
The Duchess of Cambridge now wears the ring alongside her Welsh gold wedding band.
