Blur bassist Alex James made cheese when being Britpop star began to grate

Nowadays the Britpop star is more occupied with his love of food and cookery — he even runs The Big Feastival, an annual food and music celebration — and he has just become The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine resident chef.

Blur bassist Alex James is an established cheesemaker and next week his six-strong range goes on sale with online store OcadoLife on his Oxfordshire farm with wife Claire and their five kids seems a long way from Alex’s touring days with Blur, when he famously admitted blowing £1million on a wild lifestyle.

He said: “I’ve probably spent more than that on kitchens now.

"I’ve got 18 on the farm.

"We have ones for the festival, cheese development, in the house, the office, they’re everywhere.

"I have probably built three that I didn’t need.”

Alex, 49, is in touch with his Blur bandmates but is happier on the farm than playing live, because he says it took him two years to get over the stresses and strains of their last tour in 2015.

He is an established cheesemaker and next week his six-strong range goes on sale with online store Ocado.

But for Alex, who says he is “delighted and excited” to share his recipes in our mag, starting today, the best thing in life is relaxing at home with his family.

He said: “They are brilliant.

"There’s nothing much that beats an evening at home with us all snuggled up together watching Netflix and eating cheese on toast.

“That’s my perfect evening.”
