Wijnaldum compared to Messi after what he did before scoring against Germany

Jerome Boateng probably still has nightmares about Lionel Messi, and now he’s going to start having them about Gini Wijnaldum.

The Bayern Munich and Germany centre-back is a fine defender, and can boast a trophy cabinet that features six Bundesliga title winners’ medals and a World Cup one.

But unfortunately for him, many people only remember him for one moment.

Messi’s magical skip past the former Manchester City man before scoring in the Champions League semi-final in 2015 left Boateng on the floor in a heap, and Wijnaldum put him through a carbon copy of the incident in the Netherlands’ 3-0 Nations League victory over Germany on Saturday night.

Goals from Wijnaldum’s Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk and Manchester United flop Memphis Depay had put the Dutch two up in Amsterdam, before Wijnaldum skipped past Boateng and slammed in the third late on.

And the way he left the defender for dead got fans recalling that Messi moment.

Not a bad player to be compared to!
