Rachel Riley is a huge Manchester United fan and has shared her disappointment as the squad manager’s exit. The Countdown star admitted it “wasn’t meant to be” in an emotional farewell post to Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Rachel posted in view of her 690,000 followers this morning about the news.
The presenter shared several crying emojis before writing: “Wasn’t meant to be…
“But still love him, such a top man. #GoodbyeOle.”
Ole was confirmed to have left Manchester United earlier today.
This was following the club’s four-one defeat yesterday at Watford.
In a statement, the club said: “It is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.
“While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as manager and our very best wishes for the future.”
Rachel also posted late last night when rumours began to emerge about his exit.
She shared a tweet admitting she was “sad” if they turned out to be true.
The presenter penned: “Love Ole, the man and my favourite player growing up.
“Sad if true, especially now we’re a club a carousel of managers in and out every five minutes… clearly we’ve got bigger issues underlying.”
Several of Rachel’s followers weighed in following her farewell post this morning.
@RedArmyPaul99 penned: “Well said. A very sad day. He had to go but nevertheless still gutted it didn’t work out for him.”
@demich247 added: “Still a United legend in my eyes, torn emotions today, #GoodbyeOle.”
@garyshawxx wrote: “A real gent who will be devastated that he has lost his dream job.”
Rachel has never made any secret of her love for Man Utd.
Back after the birth of her daughter Maven, Rachel posted an adorable snap of her surrounded by club regalia.
She penned: “As a parent it’s important your kids make their own choices in life, no pressure, she can support whichever football team she likes… so long as she picks a red one that plays in Manchester.
“Huge thanks to our friends and @manchesterunited family for all these amazing gifts!
“Such a lucky girl (and very happy Mum!) Xxxxx.”
