Verne Troyer’s autopsy scheduled days after shock death at 49

Verne Troyer’s cause of death will be confirmed after an autopsy of his body, days after he died at the age of 49.

The Hollywood star died in the same LA hospital he’d been rushed to three weeks ago, after worried friends called emergency services saying the actor was "extremely upset, drunk and suicidal".

It was there he was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold so doctors could evaluate his mental state, after treatment for suspected alcohol poisoning.

Now The Blast reports a postmortem has been scheduled for later this week so officials can confirm the cause of Verne’s death.

The LA County Department of the Medical Examiner has assigned his death to an investigator and the autopsy will take place in the next few days.

Verne, star of Austin Powers and Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, had a long and highly publicised battle with alcohol addiction, which he tried to battle last year.

"I’ve been hearing from some concerned fans, so I’d like to address a very personal situation," he said during a rehab stint in April 2017.

"As you know, I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day."

He went on: "I’ve been receiving treatment for the last week and I am voluntarily checking into a treatment center later this week to continue to get the help that I need.

"I want to thank everyone that’s reached out with their messages of support, it truly means the world to me. With your support, I got this."

His bereaved family confirmed Verne’s death on Saturday night, telling fans that he’d passed away that day.

They appeared to hint that Verne took his own life and asked his fans to "be kind to one another".

"Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles. Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much," they wrote.

"Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone
for help."

In lieu of funeral flowers, his relatives asked for followers to donate to Verne’s two favourite charities – The Starkey Hearing Foundation, which provides hearing aids to those with hearing loss, and Best Buddies, which puts volunteers in touch around the world to facilitate friendship between people with learning difficulties.

In a tweet, the Starkey Hearing Foundation paid tribute to the actor.

"Verne Troyer touched the hearts of many and it is with extreme sadness that we offer our condolences to his family and friends," it wrote.

"We were so lucky to have known Verne and are unbelievably touched by his generosity. He will truly be missed and forever remembered."
