Nick Knowles, 59, has rushed to defend Stacey Solomon, 32, following backlash over her new BBC series, Sort Your Life Out, which aired this evening. It comes after viewers took to Twitter to accuse Stacey of “ripping off” Nick’s Channel 5 show, Big House Clear Out.

Although Sort Your Life Out premiered before Nick Knowles’ Big House Clear Out, some fans were still left irritated by the similarities between the two programmes, branding Stacey a copycat.

Nick addressed the criticism after Twitter user @fatboyliving fumed: “@StaceySolomon appears to be duplicating @MrNickKnowles and throwing rubbish out.

“Who copied who?? #sortyourlifeout.”

Nick retweeted the comment in view of his 159,000 followers and responded: “There is plenty of room for more than one show about decluttering – neither of these formats is the first in this space – there have been many shows on other channels for years about decluttering.

“Anything that helps people is a good thing & @StaceySolomon is lovely & kind.”

Nick also replied to @sambeau78, who tweeted: @MrNickKnowles how do you feel about @StaceySolomon new TV show being a complete knock off of your show #bighouseclearout???

“I know who’s side I’m on #TeamKnowles.”

The DIY SOS presenter hit back: “There shouldn’t be teams!

“Anything that helps people is a good thing.

“There have been decluttering shows for years on many channels that we’ve all seen & @StaceySolomon is lovely with people.

“People can choose or watch both.

“Imagine if there was more than one cooking format on TV,” he pointed out, alongside a crying with laughter emoji.

On tonight’s episode of Sort Your Life Out, Stacey and her DIY team helped to transform a single-mum and her three daughters’ home.

The family were left taken aback after the Loose Women panellist filled a warehouse with their possessions and helped them to clear out their clutter.

Stacey and the team assisted the family in deciding on keeping, recycling, or giving away various items.

The family’s de-cluttered home sparked an overwhelmed response from them and Stacey, who also welled up with tears.

Nick previously spoke out on speculation surrounding his and Stacey’s shows featuring similar concepts.

One Twitter user said last summer: “So, is the new @MrNickKnowles show on @channel5_tv basically exactly the same as the @StaceySolomon Sort Your Life @BBCOne show?

“Mega fun to watch, and I love both presenters, so this should be fabulous.”

Nick then wrote back: “Well, it’s a very similar subject matter as there are many shows in this field at the moment.

“But I hope you’ll see differences that will make it worth a watch.”
