Sir David Attenborough, 94, receives coronavirus vaccine

Sir David Attenborough has proudly become the latest public figure to receive the coronavirus vaccine, it has been confirmed.

The 94-year-old broadcaster is reported to have had the Oxford vaccination around the same time that the Queen, who is also 94, and Duke of Edinburgh had theirs at Windsor Castle.

A rep confirmed the news of Sir David’s vaccine to Metro.co.uk while a source told The Sun: ‘Sir David was always keen to get vaccinated, and support both the current programme and the NHS.

‘Of course, as well as his family and loved ones, millions of animal fans across the globe will be delighted – this is brilliant news.’

Sir David’s in quite a cool club of celebrities who’ve been vaccinated so far, with Dame Joan Collins, Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Tom Jones among the stars to get the jab.

Last month, Sir David joked that he deserved to jump the queue for the Covid-19 vaccine and told The Telegraph: ‘At 94, I think I’m entitled! I’m sufficient of a scientist still, I hope, to realise this is the thing to do.’

He added: ‘The virus has made us feel we are more vulnerable, and vulnerable to what is happening to the world. It has drawn attention to the fact we aren’t as omnipotent and all-controlling as we think we are.’

As we entered the new year, Sir David urged us to acknowledge the world’s ‘fragility’ and continue the fight against climate change.

Narrating the fireworks display which aired on BBC One, the natural historian said: ‘A living world of diversity and wonder. It’s also fragile.

‘With the new year comes the opportunity for change. And if we act in 2021, we can make a world of difference. Together, we can turn things around. Together, we can restore our fragile home and make it a happy new year for all the inhabitants of planet Earth.’
