Helen McGinn walks without crutches after knee replacement
Saturday Kitchen star Helen McGinn has issued an emotional health update complete with an apology, revealing she is finally “off the crutches” after undergoing knee replacement surgery.
The BBC wine expert posted a triumphant exercise video to her 103,000 Instagram followers yesterday to the tune of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now – and she seems to be raring to go.
Clad in yoga pants and trainers, and sporting a broad grin on her face, Helen wasted no time in showing the world that she was back on her feet.
“Off the crutches! And I did a full rotation on the exercise bike (there might have been a swear word/air punch, apologies to the other gym-goers),” she confided in her caption.
“Still a way to go but goodness me it feels pretty good right now. As ever thank you for all your support, advice and general cheer-leading, it’s helped me enormously,” she concluded.

The proud TV star further explained that it was her very first post-op attempt at using an exercise bike this week – “nearly 10 weeks” since the initial op.
“Look at you go! Was there a chilled glass of Sancerre at either end for encouragement?” quizzed fan @misspickers.
Sure enough, the drinks writer indulged in a session of Winetime Live on Monday, which she declared via Instagram Stories was an “absolute cracker”.
Sharing a photo afterwards, she marvelled: “Look at those glasses,” adding that “so many lovely people” had been in attendance at the event.

Helen’s history in the industry goes back a long way, with the star originally starting out as a supermarket buyer who spent “almost a decade sourcing wines around the world”.
After taking some time out for maternity leave, she then revived her career, becoming a bestselling author of The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club.
The mum-of-three also runs an award-winning blog dedicated to her favourite tipples and insists on the site: “Strictly no insipid wines allowed!”
She has promised a triumphant return to TV this week, revealing she will be back with Saturday Kitchen star Matt Tebbutt for the next episode, after spending the previous one “watching in my dressing gown”.
Meanwhile, she also shared news of her Wimbledon trip on Sunday, clad in a lemon yellow jumper which she joked made her look as if she was “dressed as a tennis ball”.

Despite the knee op, Helen has hardly let the grass grow under her feet, and was sighted with This Morning stars Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond last week, earnestly explaining the virtues of “booze-free wine” to them.
“My heart used to sink a little when asked about no/low alcohol options tbh,”(sic) she confessed to Instagram fans, before adding: “But the choice is getting properly better all the time with the emphasis on flavour, not just 0 per cent on the bottle.”(sic)
