Real Housewives of Cheshire star and businesswoman Nicole Sealey has candidly opened up on her health and her journey to transforming her lifestyle after a health scare last year.

Nicole, 46, had began her journey to lose weight in August 2019 following a holiday in Spain, but found some difficulty and wasn’t entirely sure why.

Unbeknown to the star, she had an issue with her gallbladder, which she mistook for “painful IBS” but would lead her to a hospital dash.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Online in association with Nutri Heroes, Nicole said: “I started losing weight a year ago in August [2019] just because we were away in Spain and doing a lot of walking and I had got very uncomfortable. It was the heaviest I’ve ever been.

“I was heavier than I had even been when I was pregnant. It kind of crept up. I never had suffered with my weight.

“I thought: ‘Oh wrong side of 40’, I thought I had IBS. And I thought I don’t move as much as I should do and I’ve been quite lucky when I was younger. I hadn’t actually had to do a lot of exercise and I think that is a big problem for a lot of women.

“I didn’t have to go to the gym and when it changes all of a sudden it’s a bit of a shock.”

Nicole explained she began to lose weight, but continued to struggle with her health.

She explained: “I had started to lose weight because I started to have one really low fat meal not knowing I had something wrong with my gallbladder. Then I had a few flare ups. It come off me really quickly.

“I kind of lost a stone and then I started doing the show and I was thinking: ‘I’m gonna look a stone heavier. I’m not very tall, I’m only 5ft 2”’.”

Nicole explained she had a few “episodes” with her health, which she mistook for “really terrible IBS”.

But, after joining The Real Housewives of Cheshire, her health got worse. As Nicole revealed: “I’d even collapsed a couple of times filming.”

She added: “At one point, Joe had driven me to the hospital. And then, halfway there I went: ‘I’m fine, take me home’.”

Nicole was taken into hospital in April, where doctors also discovered a clot in her lung. She said: “When the rushed me in in the first lockdown they realised I had a clot in my lung as well. They thought I was having a heart attack, which is not great.”

Mum of three Nicole, who previously revealed she didn’t watch RHOC before joining, was later released from hospital.

Then in October, she was needed urgent medical care once again and underwent emergency surgery to have the organ removed.

Looking back on the ordeal, she explained her health scare has given her motivation to stick to her healthy lifestyle.

She said: “You do think: ‘I wanna see my grandchildren grow up’ – not that I have any yet but you know what I mean.

“I think it’s an incentive. And my husband’s always on at me, you know, ‘It’s not always just the weight it’s your health as well’ and he is right.”

Nicole, who previously said her kids aren’t interested in fame, and her hubby Joe, 36, have since signed up to Nutri Heroes in bid for a healthier lifestyle.

Speaking of the app, she said: “It’s not just an exercise app it’s somewhere you can prepare you meals, etc. We’ve been doing together… I think we’ve got different goals. For me, I really wanted to maintain – I did want to lose a little bit more but not put myself under massive pressure. It’s a great app for couples and people of all ages. It has something for everyone.

“The thing is, I’m getting a bit older – I’m going to be 47 in April. And with everything going on I want to be much healthier. Food has never been a huge thing for me and I think the amount go the weight gain was to do with my gallbladder not working.

“But, obviously it’s an age thing and creeps up. So for me, the focus is on that.

“And for Joe, he does exercise quite a bit, which does encourage me on the app because he is better at that than I am, but I’m better at the food part so it works really well.”
