Prince William and his brother Prince Harry have reportedly bonded over England's victory against Germany at the Euros earlier this week ahead of their meeting on Thursday.

William, 39, attended the exhilarating match – which saw England win 2-0 at Wembley Stadium – on Tuesday alongside son Prince George and wife Kate Middleton.

And it seems that the result has helped thaw the brothers' icy relationship as they have reportedly exchanged text messages about the game.

The brothers will reunite on Thursday afternoon as they unveil a new statue of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday.

A source told MailOnline: "It is still far from good between them. But there has apparently been an exchange of messages, particularly about the football, which is a step in the right direction, if only to do honour to their mother."

Insiders continued to tell the publication the exchange is "far from a full-scale rapprochement" but is "the most positive sign yet that the estranged brothers will be able to put their differences to one side."

A separate source said they "highly doubted" William and Harry would ever regain "even a semblance" of the closeness they once had.

They said: "Too much water has gone under the bridge for that.

"Harry and Meghan's decision to burn so many bridges behind them and make such terrible allegations against their family in that infamous Oprah interview, knowing they will never be in a position to defend themselves, has taken its toll.

"What little trust there was has been well and truly destroyed.

"It would be a great shame if Archie and Lilibet never really got to know George, Charlotte and Louis," they continued.

Harry was pictured for the first time since landing in the UK on Wednesday.

The 36 year old was seen sitting in the passenger seat of a black vehicle as he made his may to an undisclosed location, just one day before coming face-to-face with his brother William.

The Duke of Sussex appeared pensive as he kept his gaze looking straight ahead with his hand covering his mouth.

The royal has spent the last week in isolation at his previous residence of Frogmore Cottage to ensure he as well as his loved ones are protected from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, on Wednesday he finished his quarantine period to attend a charity event as a "surprise guest".
