After the premiere of “Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band” at the Tribeca Film Festival last night, Smith entertained moviegoers with a stirring performance at the Beacon Theatre.
She was joined onstage by special guest Bruce Springsteen, taking a break from his Broadway hit show, to sing the Smith hit they co-wrote, “Because the Night.”
R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe also joined on “People Have the Power,” playing for an audience that included Clive Davis (who signed Smith to Arista in the ’70s), Jimmy Iovine (who produced Smith’s album “Easter”) and Springsteen manager Jon Landau.
