Paddy McGuinness pays moving tribute to Caroline Flack on Sport Relief – days after her funeral

Paddy McGuinness helped pay tribute to Caroline Flack in an emotional message during Sport Relief 2020.

The host of this year’s show, which raised a total of £40million, touched viewers watching at home as he spoke of the Love Island presenter and how she will be “greatly missed”.

Caroline, who tragically took her life aged 40 in February, had previously worked with the charity hosting Comic Relief Does Fame Academy in her early career as well as making a visit to Rwanda to see how the charity’s money was helping children.

During the heartfelt moment where an image of Caroline standing in a field was shown on screens in the studio, Paddy said: “Recently, we lost a much-loved member of the Sport Relief family.

"Caroline Flack was always a huge and very active supporter of everything this charity does.

"She gave so much of her time and talent to help others, and she'll be greatly missed by us all. We send all our love to her family."

Paddy’s co-host Gary Lineker added: "I'd like to echo those sentiments as well.”

Those watching the programme took to Twitter where they wrote how moving the tribute was: “I’m crying now…. that tribute to Caroline Flack got me. She’s missed immensely," one wrote. [sic]

"@sportrelief Well done on a great tribute to Caroline Flack #BeKind,” added another as a third wrote, “The mention to Caroline Flack on sports relief has me in tears.” [sic]

The tribute on Sport Relief 2020 comes just days after Caroline’s family and close friends attended a private funeral to lay the TV star to rest.

Celebrities like Olly Murs, Lousie Redknapp, Laura Whitmore and boyfriend Iain Stirling were all believed to be in attendance as they posted social media messages remembering Caroline on the same day.

Olly, 35, who presented the X Factor with Caroline from 2011 to 2012, took to social media shortly after the funeral to say he will “miss” her.

Alongside a snap of the pair from their presenting days, he wrote: “Today was so hard but you know what goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you caz until we meet again.” [sic]

Caroline was tragically found dead at her east London home on February 15, with a coroner later ruling that she had taken her own life.

A full inquest into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death is set to be held in August.

Her family confirmed in February that she had passed away after being found dead at her flat shortly after a friend had left.

They said via a statement: “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”
