After suffering a miscarriage earlier this year, Louise Thompson is delighted to be nearly five months pregnant.
Speaking from her mum’s place while the London home she shares with fiancé Ryan Libbey is being renovated, the 31-year-old tells new, “I don’t recognise myself. I look a lot older and more feminine and curvy, but Ryan loves it. He says it’s a big achievement and I should just enjoy it.”
While Louise adapts to the changes to her body – including unexpectedly big boobs and the dreaded cellulite – she says she’s still exercising… just!
Here, the fitness guru tells us all about eating for two, being back home with mum and why she’s so independent.
Congratulations Louise! How are you feeling?
Thank you. I’m a lot more tired than I thought I’d be. My body is slowing down. I’m really short of breath today – I suppose that’s all normal now I’m at the 20-week stage.
And I’m getting heavy. There’s less space left in my tiny, short body. The baby is pressing up into my diaphragm. Although that’s probably the enormous cottage pie I just ate – I think it was for two people!
Well you are eating for two now! Are you exercising much?
Up until my 16th week of pregnancy I was doing three or four classes a week, but now everything is pushing out a lot more, I’m less mobile. I do a strengthening class and then either a yoga or Pilates class every week.
I walk our two dogs and sometimes will go down to my mum’s basement, where we’re staying, and will put some loud music on, grab some weights and do some choreographed moves.

Pregnancy does tend to slow you right down…
A lot of people have said, “You won’t see your feet soon.” I find myself literally rolling off the bed to get up! As I’m so short, I can’t cross my legs either. It’s weird sitting and having my feet dangling down.
Are there any changes to your body that have been difficult to handle?
I wasn’t expecting my boobs to balloon! I thought it would be a gradual growth but they just won’t stop growing. That was pretty immediate.
I’ve always been someone who had the luxury of wearing T-shirt bras or the quite low-key sports bras I live in, as they’re so comfortable.
Now I’m resisting getting a proper bra. I have so much sympathy for people with bigger breasts – you have to support them when you’re running and moving around.
I’ve always been boyish and athletic, running and climbing trees. And I’ve never had cellulite before. I was really lucky. Now I have cellulite on my legs and bum – it’s a whole new world.
What does Ryan [who is a personal trainer] think?
Ryan loves it. He says I should embrace it and enjoy it. It’s a big achievement. But nothing can prepare you for it. We have a big mirror at my mum’s house.
As the weeks pass I look in it and don’t recognise myself. I’m so womanly – I look a lot older, more feminine and curvy.
You’re such a healthy eater. Do you like cooking?
I’ve always loved cooking. I get that from my dad. The older I get, the more I realise you really are the product of your parents!
I like to cook everything from scratch and season everything and make it my way. As I have a colon condition [ulcerative colitis], I like to keep track of my food.
We’re staying at my mum’s, so I’m not in my own space. We went back to our house recently to see the building work and we’ve got this amazing space for cooking. I can’t wait.
How does it feel to be living with your mum Karen and brother Sam again?
I like a noisy house and there’s a lot going on. It’s like being a kid again. It’s a time of exciting change for us.
I keep thinking when will I ever live with my mum and brother again? We probably won’t get an invite back!
Is it nice having your mum to look after you?
It’s nice being with her, but I’m not someone who likes being looked after that much. Maybe I’m unique, I’m just so independent. It’s probably because I went to boarding school when I was really young. I’m used to taking care of myself.
