Leigh-Anne’s ‘fallout with Jesy’ divides celebrities amid ‘blackfishing’ claims

Celebrities have been left divided over the reported fallout between Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.

TikTok user NoHun, whose real name is Raurie Williams, took to social media on Sunday 10 October to claim to his 343,000 fans that in shared screenshots of messages he apparently received from 28 year old Leigh-Anne's account, she allegedly called Jesy, 30, a "horrible" person. It is not known who amongst Leigh-Anne's entourage has access to her social media account.

The messages claimed that NoHun "should create a video around Jesy blackfishing" – which means to accuse someone of pretending to have Black or mixed race heritage.

Following this, Jesy and rapper Nicki Minaj, 38, went on an Instagram live together to talk to their combined 168.1 million fans about their collaborative song Boyz on Monday 11 October.

During the conversation, brunette beauty Jesy told their legion of followers that she "never ever" meant to offend anyone with her tan and curly hair amid accusations that she appeared to "blackfish" in her new video.

While discussing their work together, Nicki appeared to hit out at women who speak behind the backs of other people, branding them "jealous clowns".

Since then, celebrities have been speaking out over the various accusations. Loose Women presenter Charlene White took to her Twitter feed, where she appeared to reference the Instagram live, as she wrote: "*That* IG live is just… wow. Hugely embarrassing."

Charlene is one of many who have appeared to speak out in support of Leigh-Anne as Zeze Millz replied to her tweet: "For Nicki to totally disregard how other black women feel – to the point of actually gaslighting us is so weird to me. Now, that’s not to say she HAS to agree with what’s being said – but to have over 160M followers and basically say it’s all in your heads is so detrimental.

"We won’t always ALL agree on issues. But I think there’s way to address things, especially when you have spoken on the issue before. This is the same women who had a issue with Miley Cyrus cultural appropriating. Did big boy interviews about it but now it’s “leave this girl alone”."

She continued: "I don’t know who needs to hear this… but…. A black woman wearing extensions will NEVER be mistaken for a white woman. It’s not the same. Stop using it as a rebuttal! Its extremely ignorant.

"All she had to say was…. I don’t see an issue with it but I can understand why some black women/men may do:".

Meanwhile Love Island star Amber Gill liked a tweet that read: "Nicki Minaj was really huffing and puffing about Miley using black culture but now it’s ok for a British white woman to do it because she’s getting a check off this one?"

She then posted on her feed: "Miki Minach is going out sad," and later added: "The way that Mental Health & Bullying have been weaponised is insane!"

So Solid Crew's Megaman also took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the matter as he wrote: "It’s late I’m late it’s 3.10am i’m just here to say tell Leigh-Anne we got her too," alongside a 100 emoji and a flexed bicep emoji.

He later added: "Someone tell Nicki the OPPOSITE effect is happening please continue lol," followed by a frog emoji, a coffee emoji and a cookie emoji.

Leigh-Anne's mum Debbie also spoke out in support of her daughter as she wrote on Twitter Tuesday evening, 12 October: “#WeLoveYouLeigh”. She then proceeded to thank people also voicing their support for the Wings singer.

However, not everyone agreed with the people sharing their support towards Leigh-Anne as many others spoke out in defence of Jesy over the "blackfish" accusations.

After gushing over Jesy during their Instagram live together, Nicki took to her Twitter feed to "shame" people. She wrote: "JeLeigh btchs actin real messy. ~

"if you know someone has been suicidal from bullying in the past, why try to get a bunch of ppl to bully them again about smthng else, on an even bigger scale? Shame on you— that’s rlly sad.

"You don’t know what ppl can deal with. Mental Health," alongside a folded hands emoji.

Love Island star Malin Anderson also retweeted Dan Wooton's Daily Mail article around the matter, which was titled 'The Mean Girls beating up Jesy for wearing too much fake tan may be using wokery to bully a vulnerable woman but they are doing so much worse than that'.

She then commented: "@danwootton thankyou for writing this." alongside a praying hands emoji.

Ex On The Beach star Laura Alicia also commented on one of Jesy's Instagram posts, where she said: "Yesssss girl live your best life and make that sweeter music !!

"Don’t listen to the haters ! You look stunning and move with the best x can’t wait for more," with a heart eyes emoji, a red heart emoji, a fire emoji and a celebration hands emoji.
