Laura Whitmore has revealed she suffered a miscarriage last year, weeks after she discovered she was pregnant.
The 33-year-old recalled finding out she was expecting a baby, and thinking that she ‘didn’t want her life to change,’ going to the GQ Awards the same night.
Laura, who has been dating Love Island’s Iain Stirling for the past two years, said that doctors couldn’t find a heartbeat at her 12 week scan.
‘I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to react,’ she said. ‘Should I cry? Was I allowed be emotional for something unplanned?’
She added in a piece penned for Hot Press: ‘Miscarriages happen to 1 in 3 women. I didn’t know this, because most people just don’t talk about it. Now I’m part of that statistic.
‘I hadn’t planned the pregnancy in the first place, so should I be sad? I was. That feeling was heightened because I felt I had to be sad alone: apart from a handful of people, no one knew.’
The star went on to say that the heartbreaking experience has made her sure she wants children.
Laura and Iain have been together since 2017, with the pair going strong.
When she and her beau first confirmed their relationship, she said: ‘Yeah he’s my boyfriend. He’s lovely.
‘I’ve got him as my screensaver,’ she added. ‘I’ve known him for ages.
The pair – who are both pals with Caroline Flack – became good friends after meeting at an ITV party but their friendship blossomed intro romance with pals describing them as ‘the perfect match’.
They went on to make things Instagram official, posting a snap of them kissing during a getaway to New York City.
