Kate and William ‘abandon dream’ as they prioritise kids George, Charlotte and Louis

A royal expert has said that Prince William and Kate Middleton gave up their “dream” of London as a place to live in an effort for their children to have a “more normal life”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to move from their family home in Kensington Palace in London, where they raised their three children, to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, near enough the capital for royal duties to still be carried out.

Though William, 40, and Kate, 41, have agreed that Windsor is the best place for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis., to grow up and continue their school years, it is thought that it will be sore for them leaving London.

Royal Executive Editor Omid Scobie wrote on Yahoo!: “Though London was originally the dream, it became increasingly apparent to the Duke and Duchess, that living in Kensington Gardens may not be the best place for Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, as they grow up.

"'They thought about moving to [their home in] Norfolk, but as active senior working royals they could never be that far away from London, so that’s where Windsor came into the picture,' says the source."

Mr Scobie added that the Cambridge family will be renting, not purchasing, the four-bedroom Grade II-listed Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, as initially reported.

Their new home in Windsor will be able to provide the royal children with lots more freedom than in their palace in London, where a thorough security procedure is needed whenever they wish to leave the grounds.

George, Charlotte and Louis will be able to play on the 655-acre land when they move, as the Crown Estate will have onsite security.

Adelaide Cottage will be a much more modest abode than Kensington Palace, forcing the majority of staff to live outside of the grounds in accommodations paid for by William and Kate.

The Duke and Duchess have been spending much time with their kids ahead of the big move as they reportedly retreated to their residence in Sandringham, Anmer Hall during the school break.

It is thought the Cambridges will make one more pitstop before moving to Windsor soon.

Royal expert Victoria Ward said: "Since schools broke up in July, the Cambridges have enjoyed a UK-based holiday and have been spending time at their Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

"In the coming weeks, they will travel to Scotland for their annual summer break with the Queen at Balmoral before returning to settle into Adelaide Cottage ahead of the new school term."
