TOM UTLEY: Who wants to live to 150 in this mad world in which killjoys seek to ban all pleasure and police our thoughts? Cherry…
British politician and I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Brian Paddick has announced that his husband Petter has died "suddenly".
The "devastated" Liberal Democrat peer took to Twitter to reveal the sad news, as he said his husband died "peacefully alone" at their home in Oslo, Norway.
Informing his 14,300 followers, Brian wrote: "My beautiful, loving husband, Petter Belsvik, has died suddenly at our home in Oslo.
"He was found peacefully alone, with no cause of death immediately apparent.
"It will take some time to establish what happened. We were devoted to each other & I am devastated."
Brian's friends and followers rushed to offer their condolences, with Loose Women anchor Charlene White writing: "Oh my goodness Brian, I’m so so sorry … sending you and the family my love xx."
Sky News' Kay Burley replied: "My dear Brian, this is truly tragic news. All my thoughts are with you. Stay strong."
Claire Fox, who is a member of the House of Lords, tweeted: "Oh Brian, how tragic. You have always spoken so lovingly of him. I am so, so sorry to hear this. Little to be said, except many will be thinking of you and sending as many positive thoughts of support as possible."
Emily Maitlis, who famously interviewed Prince Andrew in 2019, commented: "Dear Brian – utterly heartbreaking. So so sorry to read this."
Labour MP Jess Phillips wrote: "Sending love," whilst Lord Bethell commented: "How horrible! I am so sorry. Lots of prayers and good vibes to you."
As well as being a Liberal Democrat peer, Brian was also the Deputy Assistant Commissioner in London's Metropolitan Police Service until 2007, when he retired.
He appeared in series eight of ITV's I'm A Celebrity in 2008, in which he finished in seventh place.
His late husband Petter, who was an engineer, was there to greet him when he left the jungle.
The couple met in a bar in Ibiza, though it is not clear exactly when, and their subsequent 2009 wedding in Norway was highly-publicised as it came just a week after same-sex marriage was legalised in the country.
Brian previously opened up about his chance meeting with his future husband, as he spoke to the Daily Mail in 2009 and explained: "I was minding my own business on holiday in Ibiza when I met Petter. Inevitably, it was my last day and having spent just 24 hours together we parted with me believing I would never see him again."
He then told of how by "divine intervention" Petter then came to London to see Madonna perform in London, and Brian described how he took a "gamble" and suggested Petter stay with him to save on hotel costs.
Brian's gamble paid off, as he sweetly recalled: "It was the most wonderful weekend I had ever spent with anyone."
