Harry Potter’s Jessie Cave warns ‘don’t wait’ to go to A&E after newborn son tests positive for Covid-19

Jessie Cave has issued a stark warning to fans, urging them to go straight to A&E if they notice anything different about their children after her newborn baby Abraham tested positive for coronavirus.

The 33 year old, who also shares Donnie, six, and four year old Margot with comedian Alfie Brown, opened up on how her three month old is coping while speaking on ITV's Lorraine show on Tuesday 12 January.

The Harry Potter star, who is most well known for playing Ron's love-interest Lavender Brown in the film series, explained: "Nothing has gone to plan. It was a really, really scary start because he was in the neonatal unit after a really sudden, quick labour. He came out within 45 minutes."

The actress said she and Alfie, 29, were in complete shock when they found out their son had caught the deadly coronavirus.

"He's 11 weeks now and I just couldn't believe it when I find out, I almost can believe it because it's just been such a strange time for everyone," she said.

When asked if she knows how Abraham 'Bam' Benjamin may have contracted the virus, she replied: "No, all I know is that it is absolutely the most contagious thing. I was completely symptomless. It's just bizarre.

"Even after, I did go and get a test because I wanted to see my mum over Christmas and he was completely fine. And then over a week, almost two weeks later, he just suddenly turned.

"I think that's the thing with newborns, you just have to be so hyperaware of every single symptom and trust your instincts."

Jessie, who recently shared an adorable snap of her baby with red-framed sunglasses on, went on: "Within a day he was just kind of changing a little bit, he wasn't feeding as much. His cry was different, it was like a different baby. I just went for it, went into A&E and I think that's what everyone has to do. They just have to be so aware of a sudden, quick change. It could have been a completely different story if we hadn't gone in."

She added: "Don't wait, go."

The TV star then explained that the stress of the ordeal has had an impact on their entire lives as she continued: "With this stage of newborn, their immune system is so weak and so anything can actually have a really bad consequence.

"That's why they treated it so seriously. I think, we think that if you're breastfeeding you have this immunity but it's just not true.

"Even my breastfeeding was completely affected by this because even just two nights of a complete change of routine has affected us.

"Because of the stress obviously, my milk kind of dried up a little bit. I've had to give him formula."

"Our entire lives have kind of changed," she added.
