Gogglebox stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths have issued an urgent warning to fans after the couple’s Instagram account was hacked. The Channel 4 favourites urged people to avoid clicking a link that was being circulated on their social media accounts.

Taking to the picture-sharing site, the couple posted a handwritten note as the pair warned they had been “hacked”.

The handwritten note read: “Please disregard any message that says Dave and Shirley sent you a link. My account has been hacked and this is not from us. Sorry, Dave and Shirl.”

They captioned the post: “This link says I’ve worked on this for hours this is not us sorry,” in view of their 76,000 followers.

The Gogglebox stars were quickly inundated with comments, as some fans claimed they received a link claiming to come from Dave and Shirley.

One wrote: “There’s a lot of it going around Dave and Shirley.”

Another penned: “I just got it Dave. Thanks for letting us all know. Hope you get it sorted, love to you and Shirl.”

“I didn’t think it had come from you both so did not open it. Hope you sorted it out,” a third commented.

A fourth added: “Thanks for the heads up hope you get it sorted.”

A couple of their followers revealed they had clicked the links sent, believing it to be Dave and Shirley, and claimed their accounts had been wiped.

“My accounts been completely clear, I can log in but cannot do anything, so had to open new one, had it for years,” one claimed.

Another said: “Yeah I’ve got it. Unfortunately, I tried to open it.”

Their Gogglebox cast members offered their well wishes to Dave and Shirley after their account was hacked.

In recent months, Britons have seen a rise in phishing scams where anonymous hackers attempt to get access to your account by sending a suspicious link.

The victims of the scam are tricked into putting their user details into a fake login page, with their information then taken over by the scammers.

Dave and Shirley first made their Gogglebox debut in 2015 and have become a firm favourite among viewers.

The couple, who reside in Caerphilly, in the South Wales valley, have been married for 45 years.

Both aged in their 60s, the couple were fans of the show before a casting agent snapped them up for the series.

Their beloved pet dog Bluebell often features on their social media feeds, and they share two adult children together.
