Football fans were left stunned when Sven Ulreich’s huge blunder gifted Real Madrid a vital goal and subsequently the victory in their Champions League semi-final second leg clash.
After a pulsating first 45 with the tie poised at 1-1, Bayern Munich needed just one goal to take the game to extra-time.
But one minute into the second half and all of Jupp Heynckes’ half-time plans went out of the window.
Corentin Tolisso’s back pass was a little soft causing Ulreich to sprint towards the ball.
With Karim Benzema putting the shot-stopper under pressure, Ulreich got it all wrong and missed his kick, leaving the Frenchman to slot into an empty net.
The Bayern Munich keeper has filled in brilliantly for the injured Manuel Neuer this season, but his mistake only highlighted the difference between the pair, according to the fans.
One viewer tweeted: "Feel bad for Sven Ulreich because he’s been excellent for Bayern this season but that was horrendous."
Another supporter posted: "And that’s the difference when you have Neuer and Vidal instead of Tolisso and Ulreich. Ulreich is definitely at fault, but Tolisso did him no favors either"
After the game, Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes attempted to offer an explanation as to why Ulreich made the mistake, he said: "Ulreich got confused, had a little black-out.
"He didn’t know if he could pick it up, realised he couldn’t, got nervous and that’s what happened. It’s a terrible thing for a player to live through.
"It was a bad moment for my team but we had a lot of chances to score and my keeper played really well overall."
