Bayern Munich were knocked out of the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night after they drew 2-2 with Real Madrid – and fans think they know the exact moment the visitors lost the tie.
After James Rodriguez – who is on loan from Los Blancos – scored to overcome Sven Ulreich’s second half blunder , the Bundesliga giants began to pile on the pressure.
Bayern Munich went agonisingly close several times with Keylor Navas’ brilliant goalkeeping proving to be the difference.
But just as Bayern looked to be sniffing out a winner, Marco Asensio slipped and stayed down.
While it was fair challenge from Bayern, the Spaniard staying down led to boos and whistles ringing around the Santiago Bernabeu.
The ball came to Rodriguez who then put it out for a Real Madrid throw-in. His team-mates didn’t seem pleased, and neither did those watching.
One viewer tweeted: "If I was a #Bayern fan, I’d be raging with James Rodriguez, who cared more about not being booed than winning the game. Him kicking the ball out on 82 mins took 2 mins off the clock and all the momentum out of Bayern."
Another fan posted: "Bayern Munich have absolutely b****** it up against Madrid, who have fluked their way into yet another final. Apart from Kimmich, they were awful. And if anyone playing for my club did what James Rodriguez did, I would want them binned."
Whether it was by coincidence or not, Jupp Heynckes substituted the Colombian a minute later.
