Emmerdale’s Danny Miller’s emotional wedding speech: ‘You found me in my darkest time’

Emmerdale actor and I’m A Celebrity winner Danny Miller choked back tears in his wedding speech as he opened up about himself and his new wife Steph finding each other during their "darkest times”.

The couple, who tied the knot at Nunsmere Hall Hotel in Cheshire last month, first met in primary school and enjoyed an on and off romance through to their teenage years.

But after going their separate ways following high school, the pair thought that was it for them, until they came back together three and a half years ago and found each other when they were both struggling mentally.

Exclusively sharing his groom’s speech with OK!, in which he opened up about the pair "saving" one another during their difficult times, Danny also told us just how "emotional" it was deliver it to their family and friends.

There was not a dry eye in the house at his and Steph’s wedding breakfast as he told their guests: “Stephanie and I found each other at my darkest time mentally, but what I didn’t realise was it was her darkest time too.

“Her mum and dad always tell me that I saved her life, but what they don’t realise in actual fact was that Steph saved my life in more ways than one and changed my life in more ways than one and for that I do owe her my life. It’s why we’re inseparable.”

Danny continued: “We’re a team and watching Albert grow as the newest member of our team and seeing Stephanie be the greatest mum I’ve ever seen and the bestest friend I’ve ever had and now the most beautiful wife I could have ever asked for is everything.

"Stephanie Miller I adore the ground you walk on and I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that to you. I love you.”

The 31 year old, who has previously opened up about his battle with anxiety, admits it was “hard” to get through the “emotional” section of his speech, but he felt it was important to get across.

“It was hard to get through that part, but as emotional as it was I didn’t want to ruin it by blubbering so I really hard to bite the back of my tongue,” explains Danny.

“Steph’s parents Barry and Joyce usually tell me over a bottle of wine how I’ve done everything for their family. They tell me they were really worried about Steph before we got together again.

“They were worried about her welfare and mental health and how they might find her one day, or not find her. It was important for me to get all that across as it’s a huge part of us meeting again and I believe it’s why we found each other again.”

And as she reflects on her new husband’s speech, midwife Steph, 30, tells us it left her with “mascara streaming down my face”.

It was so emotional,” Steph tells us. “Me, my mum and Danny’s mum were all in tears and I had to have a full make-up touch up because I had mascara streaming down my face.

"He perfectly summed up how we feel about each other and everything he said was true.”

She adds of how much Danny has supported her with own mental health battle: "When you’re experiencing depression you’re always thinking: 'Have I let my family down?’ and always worrying about other people’s opinions rather than focusing on yourself.

"I couldn’t put my finger on why it was happening but you don’t want to put it onto other people. But me and Danny were going through the same thing when we met again so we didn’t feel like we were putting it on each other.

"Before I met Danny I wouldn’t talk about how I felt. I used to try and hide how I was feeling try and make out I was OK.

"Danny was the one who taught me to talk about things and not be ashamed when you’re not feeling great and how it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person when you’re feeling down. Danny made me stronger by making me talk about it.”
