Niall Horan recently opened up about living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and now it’s Camila Cabello‘s turn to speak out. The 21-year-old first revealed she suffers from the “common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over” in March of last year, but now she’s getting even more real about battling the mental disorder.
“OCD is weird. I laugh about it now,” she tells Cosmopolitan UK in the June 2018 issue. “Everybody has different ways of handling stress. And, for me, if I get really stressed thinking about something, I’ll start to have the same thought over and over again, and no matter how many times I get to the resolution, I feel like something bad is about to happen if I don’t keep thinking about it.”
Camila now understands how her brain works and that many of her thoughts are due to her OCD and anxiety, but that wasn’t always the case.
She continues, “I didn’t know what it was and when I found out, and [learned] how to step back from it, it made me feel so much better. I feel so much more in control of it now. To the point where I’m just like, ‘Aha! OK, this is just my OCD.’ I’ll ask my mom a question for the fourth time, and she’ll be like, ‘That’s OCD. You’ve got to let it go.’”
It’s so awesome to see Cam joining celebrities like Niall, Daniel Radcliffe and Lena Dunham and speaking out about her OCD and anxiety to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness.
