Cambridges at Earthshot was ‘anything you can do we can do better’ to Harry and Meghan, says expert

Prince William and Kate Middleton dazzled at The Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, this week. The event is organised by Prince William and The Royal Foundation, and is designed to find innovative solutions to environmental challenges from across the globe.

Now, royal expert Duncan Larcombe has claimed to OK! that the couple's appearance was a case of showing William's brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle that "anything you can do, we can do better."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have taken a keen interest in climate change in recent years and have been seen supporting various events.

Duncan explains that at The Earthshot prize, Prince William asserted his authority.

Duncan explains: "That was Prince William the rockstar. He’s being likened to James Bond, he was dressed in that absolutely uncharacteristic velvet jacket and when you see things like that, you see the message to Harry and Meghan. It’s the message that anything you can do, we can do better."

The royal expert adds: "I think it’s an indication that they’re not going to let Harry and Meghan distract them, the job goes on and William and Kate are the ones shaping it into their own way of doing things."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were pictured arriving at the star-studded awards at Alexandra Palace in north London, with Kate looking as glamorous as her in a floor length lilac gown.

Prince William looked very smart, and opted for a velvet green suit jacket for the occasion – very apt given the green carpet and theme of the awards.

And Kate and William weren't the only famous faces to turn up at the awards, with Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Shawn Mendes among those set to perform.

There was also a star-studded line-up of presenters, including The Duchess of Cambridge, Emma Watson and Emma Thompson.

There were five winners in total taking home The Earthshot Prize with each being given £1million towards their specific initiative.

Kate opted to recycle a stunning lilac Alexander McQueen gown with a beautiful beaded waistband for the occasion.

Her gorgeous dress was made for her back in 2011, and the Duchess was seen wearing it that year as she attended a BAFTA dinner at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.

Prince William also recycled his outfit, having last donned the smart blazer while attending the Centrepoint 50th Anniversary Gala at the Roundhouse in London in 2019.

Judges at the prestigious awards included Sir David Attenborough, actress Cate Blanchett and singer Shakira.

In the days leading up to the awards, Prince William had criticised space tourism.

He said: "We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live."
