Avicii’s ex thanks late DJ for ‘teaching her what true love feels like’

Avicii’s ex-girlfriend Racquel Bettencourt has thanked the DJ for ‘teaching her what true love feels like’ as she paid tribute to the late Swedish DJ.

The Canadian model and blogger lived with Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, for a year in Los Angeles until they split in December 2014.

Avicii was found dead at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman, last Friday with no cause of death given.

Responding to the tragic news, Racquel shared a number of intimate pictures of them on their travels around the globe.

She wrote alongside the post: “My heart is broken. Tim, it feels like it was just yesterday when we were inseparable. We talked and laughed till sunrise. It was us against the world. Memories to last a lifetime.

“Through all of our ups and downs I wanted nothing more than to make sure you were healthy and happy and be there for you every step of the way. Give you life, something to look forward to, but the universe had different plans for us.”

Avicii had previously been open about his chronic health issues, having had both his appendix and gallbladder removed after being struck down with acute pancreatitis – brought on partly by excessive alcohol consumption – aged just 21 during a US tour.

In 2016, at the young age of 26, he was forced to retire from touring, but he kept making music and was nominated for a Billboard music award last week.

Racquel contintued: "I know how hard you struggled and tried. I tried everything I could. Thank you for showing me and teaching me what true love feels like. Taking me along with you through your journey.

"The bond, and connection we shared was so pure and real, I don’t think it ever really truly broke. It has always been and will always be in my heart forever.
