Amandla Stenberg Still Remembers the Time Jennifer Lawrence Taught Her How to Pee in the Woods

Amandla Stenberg joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show to discuss her new movie, reflect on her recent Time Magazine cover and reminisce about lessons taught to her as a younger actress by Jennifer Lawrence.

Amandla spoke with Jimmy about her starring role in The Hate U Give, the critically acclaimed movie on topics of police violence and interracial relationships that went into widespread U.S. theatre release earlier this week. Amandla costars in the movie with KJ Apa, Issa Rae, Common and Sabrina Carpenter.

The young actress also talked about her new Time cover. The cover recognizes Amandla’s commitment to raising awareness about various topics related to social justice, diversity and inclusion.

But the conversation probably became most animated when Amandla discussed her breakthrough role as Rue in the 2012 movie, The Hunger Games. When Jimmy wanted to know if, as a 12-year old actress at the time, Amandla had learned anything from that movie’s lead, Jennifer Lawrence, Amandla told the Tonight Show host about the time Jennifer taught her how to pee in the woods …
