Police respond to reports of an active shooter at North Carolina High School

  • At 6.30am, police were called to Topsail High School near Wilmington 
  • It remains unclear if anyone has been injured or if there is still a threat 
  • Cops were seen on the roof of the high school not long after the first reports emerged
  • Classes were not in session at the time but all of the school campuses in the district have been placed in lockdown  

Police are responding to reports of an active shooter at a high school in North Carolina.

Police responded to a call from Topsail High School near Wilmington at about 6.30am Friday.

Pender County Sheriff’s Department could not give details of the shooting on Friday morning but a spokesman told DailyMail.com it was an active scene.   

No injures are yet to be reported but it remains unclear if there is still a threat.

The school is located in Hampstead in Pender County.

Classes had not yet started when the first calls were made. Police were seen on the roof of the school shortly after the first reports emerged. 

Parents and students are gathering in the parking lot of a Lowes Foods. 

All of the schools in the district have been placed in lock down.
