The Hollyoaks actor, 20, revealed he wasn’t properly seen by the show’s medic after harming his bare leg during his stint on the series.
Malique told The Sun after leaving camp that he felt the accident was overlooked by Medic Bob, who works on set to look after contestants.
Speaking in Australia he said: “I did it three days ago carrying a pan of hot water.
“Medic Bob didn’t come out – he just told me to put an ice pack on it and gave me some meds.”
And now insiders have claimed Malique’s mum Debbie, who was there to greet her son following his exit from the show on Sunday, isn’t happy with the way he was treated.
A source said: “Malique’s family were shocked to see the burns on his leg.
“They were keen to know if more could have been done to prevent him suffering days after obtaining the injury.
“He’s been in a lot of pain since leaving camp – with a doctor coming out to see him every day since his departure.
“Malique is hoping to pursue a modelling career and now fears the burns will scar and jeopardise his chances.”
A spokeswoman for ITV has insisted the star was well looked after.
She said: “Malique was scalded by hot water while in camp and has a superficial burn on his leg. He was advised and treated by our medical team in camp and after leaving the jungle.
“The diagnosis of a superficial burn was also confirmed by an independent doctor.”
Malique told of his modelling aspirations earlier this week.
He said: “I want to go into music and modelling as well. That is one of my options but I know I have to be patient and wait for the right time to jump on it.”
The father-of-one was voted out the competition earlier this week, describing the show as one of the “toughest experiences” of his life.
He said: “It was so tough, having to do a lot of chores around camp, carrying water all day, doing trials, it was exhausting.”
Malique’s mum posted an image of them together on Instagram confirming he hasn’t been feeling himself this week.
In a caption she said: “Me & my boy, having a quiet breakfast together.
“He’s a little under the weather at this morning. A little TLC is much needed from his mamma.”
