Awkward kiss comment that ‘sparked Danny John-Jules and Amy’s Strictly bust-up’

Strictly Come Dancing’s Danny John-Jules seemingly sparked a massive bust-up with partner Amy Dowden with an awkward kiss comment.

Professional dancer Amy, 27, looked incredibly uncomfortable and even shook her head when the entertainer put her in an uneasy position on ITV’s Lorraine on Wednesday.

Just hours later she ran out of rehearsals sobbing and threatened to quit Strictly after a furious row with Danny.

On the infamous Strictly curse, Danny, 58, said: "That was the draw. That’s what got the ink on the paper."

After presenter Loraine Kelly said "the kiss happens", referring to the Seann Walsh and Katya Jones snog scandal, cheeky Danny replied: "Not to me!"

He added: "I’ve been hoping for that [a kiss] and I get nothing."

This left Amy, who is engaged to fellow dancer Ben Jones, looking very on edge as she rocked forward on the sofa and forced a giggle.

Realising how tense the situation was, Lorraine quickly claimed they would be "friends for life" as she backtracked.

Danny said: "The great thing about us is we came in professional and we’re coming out professional. If I didn’t I’d never learn the numbers."

Fearing the wrath of his wife, Petula Langlais, Danny added: "I’ll be sleeping on the floor tonight – never mind."

This potentially led to the massive row which ended with Amy fleeing training in tears, saying: “I can’t go on with him any more.”

Amy sobbed as she rang producers on the BBC show after storming out of the studio where she and actor Danny had been practicing.

A source said: “Amy’s call sparked a sense of panic, not least when she said she couldn’t be paired with him any more.

“The two of them have had several cross words and arguments throughout the series. But this was the biggest row yet.

“Danny is knackered with all the training and he lost his cool. Amy took it really badly.”

BBC bosses told Danny he has to be “mindful of his behaviour moving forward” and spent yesterday reassuring Amy.

On Thursday night the pair put on a united front on spin-off show It Takes Two as a source said Amy had decided to go on rehearsing with Danny in West London.

The source added: “They are trying to put it all behind them.

“Danny is a perfectionist who strives to make each dance better and better. It’s very common for things to get heated during training.”

Last night a Strictly spokeswoman declined to comment.

A source added: “It’s been a tough week for Danny and Amy but they’re back in rehearsals and looking forward to Saturday night’s show.”

During the Lorraine interview, the Red Dwarf star then revealed why he doesn’t socialise with the rest of the celebrities.

He said: "I’m 58. We finish at 10 O’clock at night. The only place I’m gonna go is A&E.

"I can’t wait to get home. You put your head down on the pillow and before you know it you’re up again and in front of Amy."

Danny, who performed with pop duo Wham! at Wembley before they parted ways, told Lorraine he as "reliving my misspent youth" on Strictly.

Praising her partner, Amy said: "He works so hard and we’re just loving it."

Returning the compliment, Danny said: "I need the Welsh fire underneath me. My attention span is the size of a gnat. A few lashes with the hollow whip and I’m back in line."

*Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8.30
