A former carpenter and his wife are making more than $2 million a month, after launching a cult beauty brand that is selling out around the world.

Bali Body is the brainchild of Melbourne-based husband and wife Dave and Laura Osterloo, who despite having no experience in the beauty industry are taking the skincare world by storm with their natural tanning oils that are suitable for all skin types.

Since launching in 2014, the couple have gone on to sell out around the world, with a product selling roughly once every 45 seconds.

Bali Body is now stocked in 150 countries around the world, and the brand has more than 1.3 million followers on Instagram.

So how did they do it? 

The main thing that sets the multi-million-dollar company apart from other beauty brands is that Bali Body is suitable for all skin types, no matter how sensitive.

‘We’re committed to using natural and naturally-derived ingredients,’ the website reads. 

‘Proudly Australian and vegan-friendly, all products are strictly tested on Bali Body babes.’

This has helped to spread the word of the brand, while they encouraged others to share snaps of themselves using the products on Instagram.

There are currently close to 250,000 results under the Bali Body hashtag, and the brand is reportedly tagged every 10 minutes.

Speaking about the early days of launching the brand, Dave told News Corp that it wasn’t always easy as their packaging would leak at the beginning, meaning they had to offer thousands of refunds. 

‘We had thousands of orders and there was a lot of leaking, so you can imagine the stress levels. We had to scramble to get a solution for that,’ he told the publication.

‘We were finding our feet, so it was a steep learning curve, working around the clock trying to keep our customers happy.’

However, they soon hit on the right formula – and today the brand, which has been dubbed ‘Australia’s number one skincare and suncare range’, sells every 45 seconds.

‘We taught ourselves everything we needed to know, and we’re still learning today. I’m really proud we’ve been able to achieve that,’ Dave said.

‘It’s a fake tan for your face that won’t clog pores or cause breakouts and evens out skin tone in just 4-6 hours.

Dihydroxyacetone, or DHA, is a colourless chemical that interacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a brown colour change.

After seeing global success with their Self Tanning Mousse – which sold out online three times – the beauty juggernaut has enjoyed the fact that this product has had a similar viral effect.

Hundreds of customers have taken to the Internet to rave about the $29.95 tanning water.

‘I bought it last week and applied it before going to bed. I normally do not go out without makeup and for the first time my skin was so pretty hat I did not feel like wearing anything on top,’ one person wrote. 

‘I had no clue what this would be like but it is amazing! I used to hate tanning my face because it would make me break out. This has actually made my skin better,’ another said.

A third added: ‘I love this product so much! It felt so light on my skin and gave my face a perfect bronzed glow. I got so many compliments on my skin. Obsessed!’
