Jourdana Phillips owned up to having some major pre-show jitters before she dons her Victoria’s Secret wings.
“Twenty-four hours before each VS show, I have a complete existential crisis,” Phillips told The Cut in a wide-ranging Q&A on Thursday. “I’m just like, ‘What is the meaning of my life, am I gonna completely embarrass my whole family? Are they gonna love me? Am I gonna fall? Will my whole career be ruined?’ You just go through a roller coaster of emotions and fear and excitement and your mind goes crazy.”
The model, 26, who has walked in the lingerie show before, became known for being the first stunner to rock her natural hair on the runway.
And aside from questioning life and her career before stepping on stage, Phillips also said that while she’s taking the catwalk, “every curse word possible” is going through her mind while being surrounded by VS legends such as Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel.
“In my head, I’m also reminding myself, ‘You belong here too. You worked hard, you’re beautiful, you’re a powerful woman, this experience is special, and you belong here,’” she added, when explaining how she calms herself down.
As for prep for the big night, Phillips revealed that she ups her daily skincare routine and hits the gym more often, specifically celeb-favorite studio Dogpound, to get in Angel shape. She’s currently working to master sprinting while pushing a weighted sled.
In addition to getting more workouts in, the model revealed she also does “cheek push-ups.”
“There’s one [exercise] where you stick out your tongue really, really far for like five seconds, or smile so hard that your cheeks hit your eyeballs, and you keep flexing your cheeks up,” she said.
This year’s runway show films on Thursday in New York and will air Dec. 2.
